Here we go
School is out for the summer. Really, it just began about 30 minutes ago. And I am such a sap...I cried on and off all last Wednesday because Kate was leaving preschool. Then today, I got teary over having a second grader. Gee, what is with me?
I did make totes for the teachers - 6 in all. These are the ones I finished yesterday and photographed early this morning then wrapped for Jane to take in today. I didn't get photos of the ones for Kate's teachers - too little time. When will I learn?
We're off to the pool - trying to get into the summertime groove. I hope that I can balance fun and housework with two little girls in tow. I did it last summer, but just don't remember how. I think it'll be trial and error. Wish me luck.
Keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't rain. I don't have any kind of back-up plan at this early date. Got to get on that too.

The teachers must be really happy to receive your gifts.
Well done to the teachers who deserve our appreciation and to you too!

Summer - you love having them with you so much but you also have to figure out what to do with them with you so much. Quite a conundrum.

Lucky Teachers! They are beautiful.
Next week is our last week. I'm trying to figure out teacher's gifts now!
I really need to learn to make totes :) Do you know of any tutorials {easy ones} that are around? Or I can buy a pattern at the store? Any recommendations?

Oh, those lucky teachers (I mean because of the totes, not because school is out - but that's not too bad, either). Have tons of fun at the pool. I'll be thinking of you while we finish up our last month in our 90 degree classrooms - not that I'm jealous or anything!

isn't it interesting how different our lives are summer vs. winter? it is hard to manage playing outside time and housework - playing outside wins everytime, though! i try to hang my laundry out while out there and call it good! :)
have fun at the pool!

I know exactly how you feel. I get the same way when mine finish a grade. I have a few more weeks to go before they are home with me and I too, do not know how I am going to balance in all. Good Luck!

Oh, summer, how I love thee! My husband (a teacher) finishes tomorrow and the pool opens on Saturday, so I think we'll really feel in the swing starting next week. I love the totes. :D

Erin- You and I are leading parallel lives... except we're trying to hold off for the pool until tomorrow.
I had a terrible time when J left preschool- I'm still not sure why. This year was much easier for me somehow.
Here's to finding our grooves!

I like how the totes turned out. Hope the rain held off for you.

Happy Summer! Our schools don't get out until June 25th, so I'll have a little more solitude for a while.

those totes are lovely, Erin! Hope that you find your summer groove quickly. This will be our first summer to try to figure things out-my oldest is just finishing kindergarten. School sure changes things.

They are lovely, Erin! And as for the housework. Screw it. There's always September :-)

Oh, I can't wait for school to get out (that also means I'm not working, too!)!
Someday, I hope to be a teacher myself and I would count myself lucky to receive such wonderful gifts!

The totes are beautiful! Nice fabric pairngs (like wine).
I'm one of those parents who also cries on the last day of school, as opposed to the first. But I think I do for different reasons!
Bad, bad mama!

Wonderful totes - those teachers are lucky!

The totes are just beautiful - as always!
School is still in session here for a couple more weeks and then I also need to find that balance with having 3 kids at home. In fact, they usually need to adjust to being around each other all day too!

Great reminder to tune myself up for summer holidays with active kids at home! Last summer I had one kid (the other was a tiny baby)but I think this summer will be dramatically different with a rambunctious toddler. I am so in for an awakening. Good Luck.
Great gifts you made.

My youngest has one more year of preschool and my oldest is going to be a 2nd grader ... time flies and I'm right there with you. Haven't cried yet, but you just never know when these things will happen. Love the bags. Do you have a tutorial or pattern for them? Suppose I should just get the book ... that is if I ever work a better sewing machine (one with actual thread tension) into my budget! Happy Summer - we've got 2 more weeks out here.

My youngest just finished kindergarten too. I'm right there with you. And yes, I too made tote bags for the teachers. One of them is on my blog. Happy summer!

Oh bless you! No stinky candles! Those bags are gorgeous!

my girls are in school yet, so I don't have that 'school's out' feeling, but I do have to adjust to getting multiple swims in every day--because of a demanding 5 year old. just getting down to the pool takes so much "packing". it'll take me awhile to get used to it.
and back up plans? i'm so not there yet.
Posted by: molly | June 02, 2007 at 08:25 AM
oh, i meant to say my girls AREN'T in school yet....duh
Posted by: molly | June 02, 2007 at 08:26 AM
Hee hee! What you said is exactly where I'm at. I'm trying to remind myself to enjoy all these moments, and find the balance betweeen getting it all done and having fun with the kids. The pool is our plan too. Crafting and play in the morn while mom tries to clean up and then it's time to cool off in the water and then home for naps and stories... "camp heather" is what I call it. And yes... we lack a rain plan.
