Temporary Paralysis
February 20, 2007
Do you ever have something you really want to make, but can't get yourself to make it? That is how I have been feeling the last few days.
I sorted my wools, piled them up and there they have sat untouched for several days now. It's like I am afraid to cut. I don't have much fabric to spare so I guess I am just scared that I will mess up. But, I have to get going - the craft swap is tomorrow. Tomorrow, people! I've had three months to get the job done and I only have myself to blame.
Do you think procrastination is genetic? I'm beginning to wonder if I have some small, unknown gene that won't allow me to get things done with time to spare...
Enough chatting. I have work to do.
hope your little sewing machine is hammering away as I type this...those fabrics are beautiful...hope they inspire! can't wait to see what you make.

I SO know where you're coming from! I just returned from a big shopping expedition. I got great beads, chain, and findings. The whole time, I couldn't wait to get home and get started on some jewelry. Now I'm here, and I don't want to touch anything for fear that things won't turn out as I hoped and my supplies will be wasted. There is such potential in untouched craft supplies; the idea of cracking away at that potential is paralyzing!

My mom has procrastinated as long as I can remember. She shops early and sends everything out late. Christmas cards in February and so on. I definitely take after her. I totally believe it's inherited. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Love your site. :)

I hear you. Maybe it's just called being a perfectionist! My Mum is a terrible procrastinator but it is because she is such a perfectionist! I think procrastination can be genetic but I think you can break the cycle if you want. Okay that's my two cents! Hope you get it all done. Good luck. BTW...great fabric!
