Happy Halloween (or grumble, grumble, moan)
October 31, 2007
Is it really here? Already? Eek. I think it came kind of fast this year. I have candy to give out and the kids have costumes. Jane is a pirate and Kate is a mermaid. Both costumes are store-bought pieces of junk, but I am okay with that. I couldn't make them after last year. Well, I could have thrown a pirate costume together pretty easily, but the picky dresser didn't like that idea. Kate's costume has already ripped. Twice. Oh well. I am not fixing it again - it seems futile.
I've been sick since Sunday morning. Monday afternoon it was a confirmed case of strep throat with a sinus infection chaser. I'm feeling better today, but I am still not up to snuff. I'm tired and just want to nap. But I am the second grade room mother, so I have to go run the Halloween Party this afternoon. Thank goodness we have a Krispy Kreme nearby. The thought of making cupcakes really wears me out. I wish I could find a good, age appropriate, short video for the kids to watch because playing GHOST bingo sounds like a lot of work, too. But then again, I have the bingo game and I don't have the video. I guess bingo wins.
On a brighter note, Jane brought home this drawing. It made me smile.
Off to stuff goody bags (oh joy!) and then work up the energy to take a shower. Maybe after school I will feel well enough to carve pumpkins. Then again, no one has asked about doing that so I may not bring it up. Yes, I am feeling like a bad mom.
Enough grumbling. Hope your Halloween is safe and full of fun. And candy - lots of candy. Hey, I think a bite of chocolate might be just what the doctor ordered. Now where did I put it?
You are not a bad mom just one getting over a sickness! Been there. The kids will have fun on Halloween no matter what! Get well cause I'm sure they'd most like to play with you!

you are so ::not:: a bad mom. chase's store bought piece o'crap costume has already ripped a bit, too, and my pumpkin carving was rather lackluster.
have some chocolate + feel better!

yeah, because we've been sick (and/or injured) we totally forgot jack-o-lanterns! oh well. there's always next year.
feel better (says the also sick room mom who has to run a party today!).

I have a cold too. I told Brian that if candy is the cure for the common cold, I am well on my way.
Feel better and tell the girls to have a great time!

He he, glad I'm not the only one feeling like this. Illness has definitely sapped my halloween enthusiasm.(hey, not that there was a whole lot to start with!)

I got strep on Christmas eve last year, so I feel.for.you. No fun. Bought pieces of store junk too and I don't feel bad. The kids like them just the same and got to pick them out. A lot less stress for mom.

I hope you get well soon. Jane is an excellent little artist good job Have a Happy and safe Halloween

Poor You!
I understand the whole Ugh, it's Halloween feeling! We were up last night until 1:00 putting together a speckled bull costume for my son's lst grade class "Irish Cinderella" party that we were just notified about on Monday afternoon. Thrilled, I was thrilled. Sometimes I wish I couldn't sew at all, didn't even own the machine and could just say, Oh, goodness, sorry but I can't do a thing! Isn't that awful, but oy, it can get to be a bit much.
I ordered the $50.00 Pokemon costume because I just couldn't think about it any longer. I miss the days when you just pulled old clothes out of a pile for that "Hobo" look, grabbed a pillow case and off you went:)
Hope you feel better,
Michelle

I hope you feel better soon. Do try to enjoy the whole Halloween thing because it'll all be over before you know it and you'll have to worry about what the kids are doing at that Halloween party after they act like crazies at the haunted house...

Phew. So I am not the only mom out there NOT making costumes, not carving pumpkins. I don't know, I just couldn't really get into it this year. Then again, the girls don't even seem to notice, so maybe this is the kind of stuff we moms freak out over and no one else.
Posted by: Rachel | October 31, 2007 at 11:44 AM
oh, hope you are feeling better soon, take care of yourself.

Poor you, I hope you get better soon!
For some reason, I wasn't in the Halloween spirit this year either. My kids have store bought costumes and I threw together some cupcakes from a box mix last night. My two youngest didn't even have a Halloween shirt to wear to daycare this morning. Oh well, there's always next year.
Posted by: beki | October 31, 2007 at 11:57 AM
Oh hon! You're a world class mom, just one who happens to be having a bummer of a morning. Hang in there!
Posted by: Stefani | October 31, 2007 at 11:57 AM
Get out the sharpies or poster paint for the pumpkins, it's so easy and fun, they create and you don't have pumpkin guts to clean up! We did this last year when I couldn't face carving the pumpkins alone.
Feel better soon!

Happy Halloween to all of you. Hope you are feeling better.

You poor thing! I'm the 2nd grade room mom for my daughter too! At this point, I'm thinking...what was I thinking? Good intentions yes, but who planned on being sick and having to put together a party. Luckily I've been feeling better, I hope you do by this afternoon. We're doing a ring toss - rings made out of the tops of ice cream bucket lids wrapped with fabric. They throw it over a can of soda or juice and get to keep it. Also popcorn hands, tissue ghosts and they get to decorate cookies. Our local grocery store will let you buy the cookies from the bakery with the frosting on the side. How easy is that? (The school doesn't allow home made food due to allergies and that sort of thing). Other mom's are helping me pull this all off, I hope you have help!

I'm glad you're starting to feel better, but ick that you have so much to do! We did the halloween party yesterday, so now I have to go make v.2 of Gunnar's costume for tonight. And from here we go into Christmas. Ugh.
Rest and feel better!

Feel Better Erin!
I'm sure the kids will love whatever you come up with. I bet even sick, you do 200% better than whatever the other mum's would do :)
Have a little chocolate with some coffee and enjoy.
Happy Halloween to the girls.

I know just how you feel. I too am finally getting over my sinus infection/cold and still feel tired.
Sinus infections are the worst...they really wipe me out. You are not a bad Mom and just the fact that you think you are right now proves it. I hope you get your energy back sooooon. xoxoxo

i tried to let Halloween pass here too. But the kids remembered! So today we raided a friend's dress up box and they're both going as...I'm not really sure--girls in old fancy dresses!
Hope you're feeling better soon. I've been nursing a sick husband allweek. It's that time of year, I guess!

Ooh...hope you get some rest after the Halloween madness is over.

We too had Halloween last night. Not many children come around here and one lot that did were ferral and rude. Makes you wonder why doesn't it.
Friends came around and had a ball though so that was worth it.

Hope your feeling better, a Krispy Kreme or dozen will make it all go away i'm sure

Don't let the teacher know you have strep throat!!! As a former elementary teacher, I can assure you that will not go over well. :)
I sympathize with your excitement (or lack thereof) over all you have to do while feeling under the weather. Hang in there... it will be over soon (or maybe it already is???)

Good Luck! I hope the day went well and the sugar-high doesn't keep the kids up all night!
Get a good night's rest. :)

I think Halloween should be officially re-named "Sugar Overload Day"
But maybe the sugar overload would help keep you from feeling so crummy? Feel better soon!

I think bringing Krispy Kreme makes you Queen of the Classroom, not bad mom!
Really.

I hope you feel better soon! I had strep earlier this year and I know how awfully miserable it is! :p Sending good wishes your way! :)

Sounds like a similar edition to our Halloween. I'm sick too and was soooo disappointed. I look very forward to sharing Halloween with Phi and I just didn't have the energy to enjoy it this year.
I too, was room mother, and barely made it through the party. Came home and rested for a while and my husband had to make the chili for the family get together as I just couldn't do it. Total bummer. Oh well, Phi didn't notice a thing and had a fabulous time bounding from house to house collecting treats and that's the most important thing.
Hope we're both on the mend very soon. Two more big holidays to get ready for. Ack!

Poor old you - I am waiting to come down with something myself as the whole family is coughing! Don't worry about the whole "wonderful mom" crud - I spent all day Wed with a fine coating of sweat trying to entertain the 5 year old - and all he did was moan all day! Kids eh?
