Down to the wire

Here's my Tie One On submission for the local pride theme.

Local_pride_001a_1_1

The background fabric is a tiny brown and white polka dot.  The pocket and ruffle fabric came from a dress that used to belong to Kate.

Ky_derby_dress_002_1_1

I trimmed the pocket in some vintage green ric rack that Georgia and Nolan gave me for Christmas last year.

It didn't turn out as I had originally pictured, but I am still happy with it.  The photos are crap, but what do you expect from the supreme procrastinator?  I literally just finished it and the sun is almost down.  And my photographer is 7.  Hmmm....do you think that may have something to do with it?

Thanks for all the well wishes yesterday.  I am feeling a whole lot better today.   Still tired, but better.  The weekend is looking good already.

Totally cute! Love it.

Mama Urchin

It could be for the new theme too and that fabric from the dress is wonderful.

emily

adorable. and i love that you're procastinator. and that your photographer is 7. that, and the apron - all so good.

Di

It's really cute! I love the Kentucky derby fabric you chose!

kat

Looks great! Your photographer really knows how to capture the best angles :) Love how you "repurposed" part of kate's dress. smart!

At least you got it done ;-) I've been a supreme tie one on slacker these days. I have some dresses of Lily's that I've held on to for the fabric. An apron is a great idea for using them.

Loving the Derby theme! Are you from Kentucky? My husband and I are both from there (him from Elizabethtown and me from Frankfort). He'd lived there his entire life until I dragged him out to California a year and a half ago. I've been lurking around your blog for a few months and really enjoying it. Your Derby theme finally prompted me to take a few minutes and post something!

Robyn

well, I think it looks pretty cute. I really like the Kentucky Derby aspect. Oh, and the colors.

This is so, so, SO sweet! You did such a great job - but what shame that dress had to go! It's so cute!

jenny

so sorry you've been sick. sounds like you've been so busy too. i don't know how you did it! love the apron and the cat bed you made. i've been wanting to make a bed for my cats, but i'm worried they won't use it.

emily

Nice! Aprons seem to be all the rage. I want to make one, too!

Louise

Oh Erin I love the fact that you always leave these aprons until the very last minute - I don't think I can work properly unless I have a huge deadline. Maybe that's why I like swaps so much! I love the apron and that dress fabric is gorgeous. I really must participate in the tie one on challenge one day - and then you'll know you have someone on the other side of the world madly sewing along with you to complete it in time!

leslie

awww....the derby!!! LOVE it!

kirsten

very cute, erin! love that you reused an old dress (which is super cute in it's own right!).

Teresa Alber

Cute, cute. Love the fact that you recycled the dress for the pocket and ruffle. Good choice.

Stefani

I LOVE that you used something that will remind you of your little one. Now THAT's truly local pride :-)

katie

erin,
so glad you feel better. the apron is great! did you get your package? just want to make sure it got to you....

Chara Michele

I think it looks lovely! So glad you are feeling better:)

I love this! The derby print is darling! I had grand ideas for a "my old KY home" for this challenge, but procrastinated my way past the deadline! Still haven't started!

you're a kentucky gal? me too! who knew?!

Grace

I am so in love with that print! It's so awesome.

You know I had suspected for a while that you might live there ... I have no idea why, it was just a feeling I had. My husband is from Louisville originally. When his parents split up, they all left the state, though. But then his dad and step-mom just moved to Colombia (in so. KY, I think) not too long ago.
