Kids' Summer Stitching

I was so flattered when Cindy asked me to contribute to her Summer Craft Camp.  She has compiled one great list of kids' crafts!

One of my kids' favorite crafts is embroidery.  They have both been stitching for a few years. This time, Kate was my very willing assistant and got to work on a cute flower embroidery from a drawing she did.  You can find our project here.

Kate and I made her flower into a sweet pillow with a rick rack trim.  You could also add it to a quilt or a bag.  Another great idea is to have your child embroider on flour sack tea towel for a gift.  Whatever you choose, it's sure to be treasured by you and your child alike.

Absolutely precious! I fondly remember stitching when I was her age. It stays with you for life. Wonderful!

Kathleen

Very cute! If you stitch on a tea towel or similar, do you do something to the back to protect the stitching?

I never have put anything on the back and the tea towels that the girls have stitched have held up well in the wash.

That is such a sweet flower - I love it!

Great idea--this may be the perfect project for my eight-year-old. I'm trying to teach her to knit (again),but she just doesn't have the dexterity for it. This may be more her speed.

ADORABLE! After seeing your post with your daughter doing embroidery last summer or whenever it was, I went right out bought a book of cute patterns for my eight year old. (I even have a pic of her working on her most recent project on my current blog post.)

I love the idea of turning her finished product into a pillow! Do I just pin the rick rack into place and sew?

Jess

Such a great project! I'll bet she just loves it.

congratulations Kate !
my daughter drew her cat (unfortunately now gone hit by a car) 2 years ago, on a piece of linen, stiched it and helped me transform this into a tote bag and the bag has become a favorite & very precious to her.
she's currently working on a x-titch bookmark.
