From pickles to pie
July 20, 2010
Friday night I made the dill pickles. I used this recipe which I cut in half. I also cut my cukes into spears before I soaked them and then processed for 10 minutes at the end. I'll let you know how they turn out in a month or so. Waiting is hard.
Saturday we spent the day at the final swim meet of the season and then at the school carnival that night. Can you say tired?
Sunday I quilted some fabric for a project. It won't get finished for a few weeks as the machine needs to go into the shop. It's not good when the little screwdriver and wrench icon shows up on the display.
Monday I baked a pie because the peaches were ripe and I like pie. Good reasons if you ask me.
And because we are talking about food....there is a little feature on our everyday dinner tables over on The Stir. If you are so inclined, please take a look. There are many great table setting ideas in this series. Thanks for including me, Sheri.
I'm going to take a blog break of a week, maybe two. I'll be back with news on a project that I have been working on behind the scenes since last fall. I'm excited to share that with you. (It's not a book.) Until then, take care.
It all looks delicious (quilt included), and I love your table. Is it your new breakfast area?

Our last regular swim meet of the season was on Saturday, too. I don't know why the season has to be so short. (Sigh.) We have League this weekend, though, and if E makes her time at League, State is the following. (I doubt that will happen, but it could.) Anyway, I'm glad we have a slight extension to the season, but it's still sad to see it winding down. I missed so much of it due to Fiona's cast.
Have a good break!

These are my absolute favorites from the season. Pickles and Peach pie. I always can a little extra peach pie filling for later, but yum yum yum!! I am off to do some pickles today myself, or rather with four kids in tow. Who am I kidding?!

We'll miss you! :) Enjoy some time away!
Will you share with us, sometime, what you did with your museum tunic? After seeing yours I ordered her tunic kit. I'm wondering if I can make a shorter tunic to wear with jeans.

I love pickles, a number one snack for me! Made Dilly Beans for the first time last year...good thing I don't like Bloody Marys or I'd be in trouble.

I was happy to see this wasn't a "pickle pie" recipe post!

Do you know the children's book, Pickle Chiffon Pie? Ours came from my husband, ca. 1960-something. It's got those crazy-great chartreuse and hot pink illustrations, plus a wacky modern version of a princess finding her prince. Anyway. Your title brought it all back to me.
Happy break. Love the quilt.
