Pillow Week Challenge - How to Make Piping Video Tutorial
Pillow Week Challenge - day two

Pillow Week Challenge - Put a zipper in your pillow video tutorial

Here are the two pillows I finished yesterday

Pillows 1

They'll end up on the couch, not this chair.  I've got something else planned for the chair.

And now, here is the zipper tutorial in video form.  It's long - 17 minutes - so you'll need to settle in to watch it.  The fact that I can show you how to do a lapped zipper and finish the pillow in that amount of time should tell you just how fast you can do this.  Also, please excuse the coughing fit.  If I could figure out how to edit better, I would have cut that bit. ;)

For more specific instructions, including how to determine the length of your zipper and how big to cut your pieces, refer to the photo zipper tutorial.  It's the same as the video, just not in motion picture format.

There are some pillows popping up in the flickr group.  Can't wait to see what you all make!

I was just coming over here to comment and ask you to make a video for your zipper tutorial. So glad to see you beat me to it:)
Thanks so much for this!!

These pillows are lovely. Love that fabric. I just found out about your challenge, not sure if I can do a pillow a day this week, but if I at least get started that's something. I have fabric right next to my computer ready for this very task. It's been there a while.

Thanks for the inspiration, and the tutorials, I think I'm going to need them.

hey! i made a pillow! with a zipper! you are so awesome erin. can't wait to make a matching one later this week. seriously- this was so easy. i used your old tutorial, not the video and it was super duper easy. thank you for kicking our butts into pillow making, e!

I haven't been able to go through all of your tutorials yet, but I'm definitely bookmarking them for later. Awesome stuff!

yay! i can't wait to see, j.

if only i had it all together this week.
i'll be back for all this info.

I am admiring my beautiful finished pillow right now! This was an awesome tutorial, thank you so much Erin. I used the video primarily, but clicked over to the text version for double-checking a few times. I couldn't really picture how all those seams were going to end up as I went, but it worked so well! Exactly as you described. It took me 2 hours start to finish (I am super slow). My pillow is so cute and the enclosed zipper so professional looking, I may just have to make many more! Great job, thanks for the tutorials and inspiration!

Erin | house on hill road

yay! i am glad the tutorial helped!

Great tutorial!
I have used it today and blogged about it here:
Thanks again!
Andi :-)

Thank you! I am less scared of making a pillow now...

I have been using your method for years! I love that you made a video :D

Wonderful video tutorial. Thanks so much!

the first part of the video had me super excited as I was following well, once at the machine doing the other side of the zipper I became very lost. I think I could figure it out but it would have been nice to see the second side steps like you did the first half. Thanks for the video because I was always struggling with zippers.

You can always look at the photo tutorial if you need a different view.

I made 3 pillows today using your zipper tutorial and they turned out great and really professional looking! Thank you so much, this is an amazing tutorial.

Yay!!This tutorial is incredibly helpful. Thanks for sharing!!

Thank you SO MUCH! Your video helped the visual learner in me be successful! I would watch part, pause, do what you just showed and then continue that process through the video. My goal is to be able to make different covers for my couch and chair pillows to swap out every so often during the year.

Thank you for sharing! You are wonderful!!!

Thanks a lot for this great tutorial. After some years I'm back to sewing and always wanted to learn how to do neat and professional looking pillow covers. Will be following your site.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am making new slip covers for our game room couches and wanted to do nice zippered covers on the cushions... your tutorial is WONDERFUL! I have finished one zipper already and it looks so much nicer and so much more professional than the original zippers on the couch cushions. I know your tutorial is for pillows, but it works great for any type of cushion. Only 9 more zippers to go!!!! But your tutorial has made it so easy that they'll be a breeze!

Just wanted to thank you on your zipper tutorial. I have need put in a zipper but now I feel I can. I'm getting right on it. You made it look so easy and your directions were very simple and easy to follow..Thanks again

Hi Erin! HELP!

I sure appreciate your tutorial on zipper installation. I have a slight problem. Can you help me? I've been making the zipper flap without piping for the longest time, but now I would like to make the covers with piping on them. I got a great deal on goose down pillows and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to put the zipper in with piping.

Hi Maria - Here is a video tutorial for making piping. To add it to a pillow, sew it to the front pillow fabric and insert the zipper in the back pillow fabric. Then sew the two pieces together. I hope that helps! Erin

So happy I found this tutorial again -- made some pillows last year that turned out great and I know I can't repeat without the tutorial.

Very late to the party, but I wanted to say this is really helpful, especially the combination of both pictures and videos.
I was trying to figure out how to put the zipper in just a side seam without it looking stupid, and found this. Really glad, cause it's easy but I never would've thought of it!

Anyway, just wanted to share that you are STILL helping people!

Tried to add comment on video but failed. Good video.

Great video but unable to add comment.

This is the best zipper tutorial on the web! I come back to it time and time again. Thank you so much!!
