Well, hello
August 17, 2011
We scooted off to a lake house for a last minute vacation. It was wonderful - cooler temps, lots of relaxation, many hours just hanging out, knitting, family bike rides, games, morning runs, movie nights. It was the perfect end to summer break. Coming home, we drove into town during a big storm, arriving at the house to tree branches across the driveway and no electricity. Two days later, the power was back on, the laundry started and lunch boxes unearthed, skirts hemmed, supplies purchased. This morning Hazel and I walked to the girls to the bus, waving to them as it drove away. And so it starts....another school year.
It was a nice break. And suprisingly good to be away from all things computer related. That said, it does feel good to be back.
Did I mention knitting?
I've almost finished my Sullivan. Really...I'm *this* close to having it off the needles. I probably logged over 40 hours of knitting in the last 12 days. I can't remember how long it's been since I've been so intent on finishing a knitting project. But I do remember why I don't knit as much as I used to - dang wrist issues. Anyhow, this has been a fun knit and I love how the Quince & Co. Lark knits up. I'm a little smitten with the color, too. A full show and tell will be coming soon.
Until then, tell me what you have been up to. I'm all ears.
Mmm, that sounds like a marvelous end of summer vacation. Your knitting looks beautiful. I've knit less lately, but when I sit down to do it, it's very soothing.
Ooh, and roasted asparagus! Love.
As for me, I've been mostly sewing in my free time, but I did make some delicious peanut butter ice cream on Sunday. Delicious!

I've been knitting away on Deco so I can start Sullivan with a clear conscience. It's so nice to live in a sweater friendly climate again! I told myself I can order the Lark once I get to the button bands. We may have twin sweaters - I'm leaning toward dogwood for mine too. I can't wait to see how it looks on you.
What else? the embroidery module on my Bernina has been revived, so I need to learn how to use it. Do you have one? Any tips? We're headed to Montana this weekend and then to the WA peninsula the next week. We're trying to cram a lot of summer into the next 3 weeks. That and gardening are about it.
Welcome back!

Love that sweater. What a cool pattern!
I'm working on back to school sweaters for my three. They likely won't be done in time, but that's okay.
Hope your wrist feels better soon.

I haven't been knitting though I have something I need to get going on. I have bound a whole bunch of quilts, I always seem to stall at the binding.

Sounds like such a nice vacation and end to your Summer.
I've been knitting too - Quince and Co's emma shrug in the sparrow yarn. I'm not sure it's going to fit right, but keeping my fingers crossed. I've also been working a lot on my Alabama Chanin dress - I'm determined to wear it to a wedding on Oct 1st, so I've been stitching in most of my free time to get it done.

Wow, I can't believe your girls have started school already, it seems so early! I've been dying to try some Quince and Co's yarn, I've heard so many good things about it!

I started Glucosamine + MSM, a half dose (it's strong stuff!), and within 10 days, I was back at it, full pace. No pain. Just thought I'd drop you my experience in case it might be of use to you.

Love that color. I haven't been a fan of pink since I was a little girl, but all of a sudden, I'm coming back around to it. I think I was traumatized by a woman at the mall when I was very young. I was dressed in pink Osh Kosh overalls and the woman told my mother, "Don't you know that redheads shouldn't wear pink?!" Hmmph. Maybe it's time for me to wear some pink again.

Welcome back! I love that first photo - so peaceful. Summer evenings are the best. I've been sewing a couple things for MYSELF lately! And I'm cautiously addicted to it...I seem to have fit issues every time, but I'm having a lot of fun, too. So different from sewing for the kids.

Welcome home Erin! Just bought yarn for our annual trip to the Adirondacks. I need to make two baby sweaters...to gift. Looks like you had a wonderful trip. Hope the first day of school went well for the girls.

Welcome home! That sullivan is going to be smashing. Glad you had such a relaxing respite. I hope the kick off of the school year has your girls wearing smiles.

I could almost feel the relaxation oozing from that post....and school starting already? We don't start til the end of the month here. Literally. The 31st. I still wonder, can't they at least wait til after Labor Day?

that's how our beach trip was (minus the knitting, I was just too tired to knit except during the drive)- including coming home to disaster (a raccoon in the chicken coop! thank goodness the girls were ok). I also bought Lark for my Levenwick. I'm so glad you mentioned it because I wouldn't have looked at Quince & Co otherwise. I LOVE knitting with it!
Happy school days, erin!

Just a few inches past the bottom nupps on my Sullivan, but I'm already thinking this is going to be one I wear alot (if we have winter in Kentucky this year). Sounds as though you had a great get-away before jumping back into the regular routine of school days.

Can't believe school could possibly be underway (we'll be in the same boat, this time next week). A lake vacay sounds like the perfect way to end it all.
Can't wait to see the done deal. I'm smitten with Quince & Co., from afar. And yes, feeling the fall knitting crush here, also.
Happy back-to-school, Erin.

So glad you had a little get-away before school started! It sounds like it was very relaxing.
That cardigan- and in that pink! I need to learn to knit much better.

Lovely to have you back in blog land (yours was the first blog I ever read, so I miss you when you're "gone"!)
Restarted my February Lady Sweater (bit late on this particular bandwagon) which I'm determined to get finished before this fall.
Also working on a Yoda cross stitch for middle kid, before starting a Dr Who one for eldest...these are intended as Christmas presents, I still have time right!
